We Are Wirral Photos — Live Music, Community, and Festival Highlights
Welcome to our official We Are Wirral photo gallery, your go-to place to relive the sights, sounds, and spirit of one of the Wirral’s most exciting community festivals.
Held in Birkenhead Central Park (the park that inspired New York’s Central Park), We Are Wirral brought together music fans, families, food lovers, and performers for an unforgettable weekend I was there to capture every highlight.
Whether you’re here to find photos of The Hoosiers, Newton Faulkner, or just want to see if you were caught dancing in the crowd, browse our curated photo collections below and enjoy a fresh perspective on the festival.
Headliner Highlights: The Hoosiers
The Hoosiers were on top form — full of energy, playful banter, and singalong favourites. They teased the audience with talk of ending their set with a “17-year-old B-side called Soggy Bread,” only to launch into Goodbye Mr A, much to everyone’s delight. Big crowd energy, lots of smiles, and colourful lighting — here are the best bits.

Newton Faulkner – Thunder, Umbrellas, and Acoustic Brilliance
Sunday’s rain didn’t stop Newton Faulkner from turning in a stunning set. Acoustic guitar in hand, soaked fans in ponchos, and a sky that couldn’t decide if it was brooding or biblical. These photos capture that exact mix of defiance and joy — and Newton’s ability to hold an entire park in the palm of his hand.

Sandi Thom – Nostalgia and Power Vocals
Sandi Thom gave a brilliant performance, reminiscing about her uni days in Liverpool and powering through a great version of The Voice. These photos capture a real mix of emotion, connection with the crowd, and that signature barefoot ease she brings to the stage.

The Feeling – Festival Pros with a Sense of Humour
It wouldn’t be a festival without The Feeling turning up and reminding everyone how it’s done. Tight harmonies, big choruses, and genuinely funny between-song banter. There was a moment where Dan Gillespie Sells called someone out for using their phone — I’m not saying it was aimed at me, but if it was: Dan, drop me a message and I’ll buy the band a round.

Woody Cook – Colour, Chaos and Decks
Woody brought something totally different — bright lights, crowd hype, and a completely different vibe. Loads of movement, a real sense of fun, and moments that photographed better than expected given the weather. Check out the gallery for pure energy and a few cracking crowd reactions.
Crowd Shots – Families, Food and Festival Vibes
More than anything, We Are Wirral was about the people. From picnic blankets to the paella stand, from kids in costume to soaked fans dancing in the downpour, these candid photos show the full atmosphere. You might even spot yourself.

One of the most praised aspects of We Are Wirral was how safe and well-run the entire event felt. Whether you were attending with friends, family, or flying solo, the overall vibe was calm, respectful, and laid-back. Importantly, the festival wasn’t alcohol-free, but there were no signs of heavy drinking or antisocial behaviour — a refreshing change from many large-scale events.
Security was handled by Copeland Security, who were highly visible without being intrusive. From the moment you arrived, staff were friendly, attentive, and clearly well-briefed. Entry checks were smooth and efficient, and there was a consistent sense that everything was under control. Families with young children felt totally at ease letting their little ones explore.
There were no reports of incidents, and even at peak times, crowd management was excellent. The layout of the park, the clear signage, and the presence of professional security all contributed to a festival that felt safe, welcoming, and enjoyable from start to finish. If you’re someone who’s nervous about busy outdoor events, We Are Wirral is a reassuring example of how to get it right.
We Are Wirral takes place in Birkenhead Central Park, a beautiful green space that many don’t realise was the inspiration for New York’s Central Park. Set right in the heart of Birkenhead, this historic park is ideal for hosting festivals — large enough to accommodate crowds, yet intimate enough to maintain a relaxed, community atmosphere.
The location is a big part of the event’s charm. With well-maintained paths, open lawns, shaded areas, and plenty of seating (picnic benches, tents, and bring-your-own-chair zones), it offers the perfect mix of nature and accessibility. Birkenhead Central Park is easily reached by public transport, with parking options nearby for those driving in. It’s also well signposted and simple to navigate, so even first-timers will feel at ease.
Many festival-goers commented on how nice it was to have such a high-quality event in the heart of Wirral, without needing to travel into Liverpool or Manchester. With the park’s legacy and layout, it’s easy to see why We Are Wirral chose this iconic space.
Yes — We Are Wirral is easily one of the most family-friendly festivals you’ll find in the North West. Held in Birkenhead Central Park, the event feels designed with children and families in mind, rather than as an afterthought. The kids’ area was a real standout: not only did it feature traditional entertainment like unicycle performers and interactive games, but it also brought a modern twist with activities like a full-size physical arcade game, where kids (and even grown-ups) could dress up as Pac-Man or a ghost and chase each other around a maze.
Parents could enjoy great food and music knowing their children were entertained in a safe, inclusive, and creative space. The organisers clearly put thought into accessibility, flow, and ease of movement — with plenty of space to sit, relax and take it all in. Security was handled professionally by Copeland Security, adding to the calm, stress-free atmosphere.
Overall, the whole event had a warm, inclusive vibe — more like a huge, shared picnic than a loud and chaotic festival. Perfect for all ages.
