This is the Thomas Brassey Bridge in Saughall Massie in Greasby. It was built in 1829 as his first bridge and was made to help drain the marshes to help road infrastructure in the Wirral. It was also used for police to help catch ‘wreckers’ in the Leasowe area.
Thomas Brassey was born in Chester, and worked on projects as diverse as the ‘NewBridge’ viaduct in Wrexham and the ‘Barentin’ Viaduct in Canada.
