Using Protek Royal Exterior Sage beehive paint to paint one of the beehives ready for swarm season. The Protek pain isn’t cheap – it’s about 15 quid a tin, but to be honest the other paints I have bought for painting the hives have been a similar cost so it wasn’t suprising.

I decided to use the Protek Royal Exterior paint as it was on sale where I usually get my bees from and it meant I didn’t have any delivery costs which can be expensive when buying paint online.

I found the Protek Royal Exterior paint to be easy to mix and it went onto the weathered wood really nice. The Sage Leaf colour I bought reminded me of Padstow, Cornwall which is why I bought it. I also bought some Spring Green as it was a slightly lighter colour.

It took about three coats of the Protek Royal Exterior paint in Sage Leaf to cover up the beehive. The wood was quite old and I’ve been burnt before not putting enough coats on. In coverage even after three coats was good and I’ve hardly used a third of the tin up. It washes out nice and easy too.
