I was asked to Marshall as part of the crew for the Dovey Valley Motor Club’s, Rali Mike Darowen Bro Ddyfi (Mike Darowen Rally). It started in Machynlleth (mid Wales) though our checkpoint was located South of Dolgellau in literally the middle of nowhere. Our manning time was at 01:47h and we closed up at just after 04:00h having seen all the remaining cars come through.

It was great fun (I did have help) though two points to note, spectators were giving us hassle about location and direction of travel, and the checkpoint wasn’t very clear on the OS map we were given. We decided to ask the checkpoint person and he showed us the right place!

At the start of the Dovey Valley Motor Club rally, all the cars lined up at the school in Machynlleth and I managed to get a shot of this Mk ii Ford Escort. Register in 1972! They still hold their own in these events.
